Lorraine Balske has served Fairmont Dollars for Scholars since its inception in 1978 as the chapter secretary. Thanks to her tremendous work ethic and commitment, Fairmont Dollars for Scholars has nearly doubled its awards in the last decade alone, awarding 134 scholarships totaling $134,000 in 2008. Fairmont friends call Lorraine the Dollars for Scholars Lady. Her enthusiasm and “practice what she preaches” attitude has helped encourage many community members to establish scholarships. She herself is a generous donor – her gifts have funded many, many scholarships for Fairmont students.

Keeping Dreams Alive

VanessaScholarship America's Dreamkeepers program provides emergency financial assistance to students at community colleges across the country who are faced with unexpected financial crises. These awards -- averaging $500 -- often make the difference between staying in school and dropping out.

Our Strategic Plan

2012-2025
Our mission is to make postsecondary education possible for all students; our goal is to assist 750,000 students in completing their education beyond high school by 2025. Our CEO, Lauren Segal, outlines the plan in this video.

A Dollar A Day

A Dollar a Day Nearly 1/4 of the U.S. population owes a collective $700 billion in student loan debt. We are committed to helping more students graduate from college with less debt. A gift of just $1 a day -- for a week, for a month, or for a year -- can help ensure that students are able to achieve their goals.
