2010 Chapter Award Winners

Scholarship America congratulates our 2010 National Award Winners! After reviewing each of our regional winners, our panel of expert judges has chosen the 2010 National Chapter of the Year, National New Chapter of the Year, National Volunteer of the Year, and National Student Volunteer of the Year.

 

National Chapter of the Year
Jefferson Dollars for Scholars, Jefferson Parish, LA
Based in Jefferson Parish, LA, Jefferson Dollars for Scholars pursues diverse fundraising and award strategies, using events, media coverage and corporate sponsorship to support students throughout their school years. They were instrumental in helping area students recover from Hurricane Katrina, and have continued as a strong community presence. Read More

National New Chapter of the Year
Chicago HOPE Dollars for Scholars, Chicago, IL
Chicago HOPE, founded in 2006, has focused on sticking with students throughout their college experience -- in addition to providing four-year scholarships, the chapter's board members all serve as mentors for the recipients. In just five years, they've created a framework to give back to their community for decades to come. Read More

National Volunteer of the Year
Lorraine Balske, Fairmont (MN) Dollars for Scholars
Lorraine -- known to her friends as simply "The Dollars for Scholars Lady" -- is a longtime educational advocate who has served as her chapter's secretary since its founding in 1978. Thanks to her tremendous work ethic and commitment, Fairmont Dollars for Scholars has nearly doubled its awards in the last decade alone, awarding 134 scholarships totaling $134,000 in 2008. National Student Volunteer of the Year
Elizabeth Naameh, Greater Riverside (CA) Dollars for Scholars
Ever since she can remember, Elizabeth Naameh has always enjoyed volunteering. But it wasn't until she started volunteering at local hospitals through the Kids First Association that she really started to understand the power of helping others. Read More
