A tragic car accident left Kari a widow with two children to care for. Knowing the value of having a college degree, and wanting to support her family for years to come, she enrolled in an occupational therapy assistant program. Taking classes, commuting for field work and taking care of two children, however, proved to be grueling.
That’s where her school’s partnership with Scholarship America Dreamkeepers stepped in. Kari applied for and received a grant through Dreamkeepers that helped cover the cost of gas, groceries and utility bills.
The assistance helped Kari stay in school successfully: she completed her program and was offered a full-time position as an occupational therapy assistant.
